Synopsis: Nests in cavities in larger trees (especially deciduous) in lowland areas of western and northeastern Oregon, but widely scattered or absent from much of the southern coast. Most notable are the records from Gilliam, western Harney, and northeastern Lake Counties.

Relative Detectability: Very easy to detect by sight and sound, and fairly easy to confirm nesting.

Challenge: Continue to search for this species in western Coast Range, high Cascades, western Crook, and eastern Wallowa County.
